REVIEW OF THE OAG EXHIBITION; 20th to 22nd August 2022

This year’s exhibition was one of the best attended in recent history, we had 479 visitors (excluding members) over the preview evening and the following three days, with paintings selling very well despite the gloomy economic forecasts we’ve all been hearing.

The organising committee and particularly the hanging team were very glad that we’d moved back to the Dining Hall of Robert Mays School, as there were 180 paintings entered to be hung plus 35 reserves – more than we have ever had.  It was great to see so many new members entering work and sales of both hung work and folios were spread throughout the artists taking part.  The exhibition always attracts interested artists and this year seven new members signed up at the show!

Professional artist and tutor Elizabeth Baldin judged and presented the Award of Merit prizes at the Preview evening and the winners were Pat Burt for her lovely small acrylic painting ‘Winter Blues’, Julian Routledge for his powerful portrait ‘That Look’ and Jillian Smith for her masterly watercolour ‘Old Alcudia’, which was also runner up in the Peter Adams Award for Best in Show.  That was won by Len Murrell’s oil painting ‘After the rain, Shaftesbury Avenue’ (see above).  Please click on this link to see a PDF of the review plus photographs of all the award winners.  Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who took part in the show.
