Amel Gembidge is an Algerian ceramic artist  with a background in education, based in Hampshire in the United Kingdom. She is an avid collector of traditional textiles and contemporary ceramics.

Much of Amel’s work is hand-built or thrown on the wheel, then altered. She uses stoneware clays and porcelain before firing to a high temperature to produce items suitable for both interior  and outdoor décor. Each piece is unique; happy to be a focal point or be part of a collection.

Amel’s work is inspired by the Mediterranean shores where she grew up and more widely by the phenomena of the natural world. She also draws much inspiration from the abundant achievements of artists, scientists and crafts people throughout history and from different cultures.

Her work emphasises sleek lines, evocative textures and contrasting colours that reveal new things to the perceptive viewer.
